What Does Vitamin D Do?

vitaminD Pill In the last decade, many different scientists and researchers such as Dr.s Michael Holick, Mercola, John Cannell and James E. Dowd have done tons of studies that show exactly what Vitamin D does for us and why. The results are amazing. One might think that this nutrient is somewhat miraculous because it can help improve a lot of medical conditions and prevent so many others.

What Does Vitamin D Do?

  • It helps the body absorb and use calcium from food and supplements. It aids in bone and tooth formation and supports bones throughout the body, resulting in better bone health and less risk for fractures,
  • Researchers have reconfirmed that children with rickets can be helped with Vitamin D, as studies in the forties indicated. Other studies have shown that women who are at risk for osteoporosis can prevent it by taking this nutrient,
  • It supports joints and muscles, which are very important especially for athletes,
  • It plays a major role in protecting the immune health, acting on infections and inflammations and benefiting all the body functions,
  • It protects the heart muscles and the whole circulation system, preventing heart related illnesses, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol,  and hardening of the arteries,
  • It helps the brain and supports nerve function, thus decreasing the symptoms of MS (Multiple sclerosis),
  • It prevents 16 kinds of cancer, including breast, prostate, and colon cancer,
  • It gives you energy and enhances mood, thus preventing depression,
  • It has effects on obesity,
  • It fights against tuberculosis,
  • It’s beneficial for diabetes, but further studies are still being done on it.

Vitamin D is really a steroid hormone and what it actually does is to activate peptides in your immune system that kill bacteria and viruses. It also regulates cells, organs and systems throughout the body. Click on the following link to watch an interesting video about it  (Vitamin D: Why Do You Need It? ).

the sunResearches have shown that the further away people are from the sun and the equator, or if they don’t have enough sun exposure, or if they need to cover themselves for any reason, or if they have dark skin, or are obese, they are usually Vitamin D deficient; thus  they are more prone to get colds, and other infectious diseases, as well as autoimmune diseases, such as MS (multiple sclerosis), bone diseases, heart problems and cancers.

Well, now that you have some Vitamin D information and know why you need it, you’ll be able to better protect yourself and your family and be healthy.
